In making this large-scale set of connected drawings, I drew upon a word-map that I had sketched out shortly after 9-11. Leibniz’s phrase, “reason folded shut” was placed in the center of the page. The imagery in each drawing corresponds to one of my entries, some of which reflect personal events while others echo public repercussions. Each of the eight individual drawings connects with those next to it, and they are arranged like pieces in a game of dominos.

Charlotte Schulz The Maximum of All Possible Hate<br>2004-2005 charcoal on paper
The maximum of all possible hate is
realized in the eternal moment, and we
cleave to our screens as it unfolds in
that disquieting way (an incompossible).
